Answer:

SLAVES AND THE DAILY ROMAN ECONOMYSlaves are war captives of conquered populations. They form a vast work force in the conquering State because the victorious empire prefers to enslave the losers rather than killing them. The slaves in Rome formed an important workforce performed in the Roman economy. In Rome, slaves were employed to work as servants, artisans and also used to work the mines under very harsh conditions. Slaves were drawn from people of different cultures and were not association with race (Historical Boy’s clothing, 2013). Therefore, it was not impossible to tell if one is a slave or not. Rome is noted for the barbarity with which slaves were treated. This may in part be due to the martial tradition of Rome and contempt for defeated peoples. Slavery was a common practice throughout the Mediterranean and it was very important to the Roman economy. Information on the precise number of slaves is not known. Some say the slave population was as high as 40%, while other estimates it to be about 25 percent (Historical Boy’s clothing, 2013). The slaves had an impact on technology, discoveries, arts e.t.c. For example, the Greek and Roman inventors made discoveries that led to the industrial revolution a century before it occurred (Historical Boy’s clothing, 2013). The positives about slavery in Rome were that “Roman slaves could gain their freedom and become Roman citizens. A grateful master might free a particularly loyal slave. Some slaves earned money to purchase their freedom” (Historical Boy’s clothing, 2013).In all, slavery made labor so cheap in the Roman empire even without machines which have become so important in recent years. Therefore, Rome got the necessary economic benefits
