Salt march was an effective symbol or tools of resistance against colonialism because:-


1. All classes could identify with salt as it was an essential food item.


2. Tax on salt and the Monopoly over its manufacturing by the sign of operation of British rule. Gandhiji reach Dandi on 6th April, 1930 and related violated Salt Law by manufacturing Salt from seawater.


3. Breaking the salt law was an Apparent defence of a British authority and was direct challenge to British rule in India. People were not only ask to refuse cooperation with British, but to break the unjustified Colonial laws.


4. Thousand of people from different parts of the country broke the salt law manufactured it and demonstrated in front of government salt factories.



5. With the spread of the movement foreign cloth was boycotted, liquor shop picketed, peasants refuse to pay revenue, chaukidari taxes, village officials resigned, forest people violated forest law by collecting food and grazing the cattle in the forest. In this way, salt march inspire people from different segments of our society and became our effective tool of resistance against the colonial power.

He told them the meaning of Swaraj and asked them to peacefully defy the British.People were asked not to co-operate with the government and stage peaceful demonstrations. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi thousands of people in various parts of the country broke the salt laws manufactured salt and protested in front of salt factories owned by the government. As a movement spread foreign cloth was boycotted and liquor shops were picketed on a large scale. Peasants refuse to pay their taxes.Village  officials resigned in many parts. The forest laws were violated by several communities. They went inside the reserve forest to collect food and graze cattle.
