Answer:

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) (IAST: Pradhānamaṃtrī Kāryālaya) consists of the immediate staff of the Prime Minister of India, as well as multiple levels of support staff reporting to the Prime Minister. The PMO is headed by the Principal Secretary, currently Pramod Kumar Misra. The PMO was originally called the Prime Minister's Secretariat until 1977, when it was renamed during the Morarji Desai ministry.

Explanation:

The powers of the Prime Minister are as follows:-

i) He chairs Cabinet meeetings.

ii) He coordinates the work of different departments.

iii) His decisions are final in case any disagreements arise between Departments.

iv) All ministers work under his leadership. He distributes and redistributes work to the ministers.

v) He has the power to dismiss ministers.

vi) If the Prime Minister quits, the entire ministry quits.

The significance of the Prime Minister is that he/she is the leader of the ruling party.
