In the story, the writer elaborates on the life of girl Alice living in London while her brother Frank goes to India since he's a solider. Gupta is an Indian national living in central London. Alice and Gupta met each other one day in a restaurant. Gupta told Alice about India and its dangers. Gupta also met her mother they wanted him to tell them about Frank by looking in the crystal. He told them he is safe but later he learnt that he died in the war. He felt remorseful about it and wanted to leave for India. When Alice learned about this she gave him flowers to place on her brother grave.
