In order to propagate the teachings of Ramakrishna and put them into practice, Ramakrishna Mission was founded in 1897 by his favourite disciple Vivekananda. The mission stood for social service. The best way to serve God is to serve mankind was its motto.

Contribution towards education:-

• it has been successful in propagating universal principle of vedanta philosophy and giving true picture of india to the world

•it has been running a number of schools,colleges,technical institutes in india and all over the world imparting modern and technical education along with spiritual knowledge

•lakhs of boys and girls study in these institutes

•the mission had published books on vedanta and also publishes journals and magazines in english and other indian languages

• it has been running a number of hospitals, dispensaries,charitable trusts,orphanages, widow and oldage homes.

• offers help to afflicted in times of calamities like famine,flood and epidemics
