Social contract theory rejects the Divine origin theory and states that in the earlier time , people used to live in a state of nature without a state and later they ended this state of nature as it had made such a living which had led to anarchy and chaos.

Central features of the social contract theory

(1) Originally people used to live in a state of nature :- It was a pre-political and pre-social stage according to Hobbes and Rousseau but according to Locke , it was only pre-political state of nature.

(2) Life in the state of nature:-Locke held that it was a state of peace and order based on natural rights in which men as social and rational beings lived peacefully.Rousseay held that initially it was a state of full freedom-a blissful living of human beings but later on due to the birth of selfishness , it became a state of perpetual property-wars, and the result came to be as anarchy and chaos.

(3)The social contract :End of the state of nature and birth of the state :- According to the social contract theory, the state is originated by social contract made by the people , who decided to come out of the state of nature.State was a creation of human will by the two contract, civil and political contract.
