Explanation:

By birth, the nobles had enjoyed certain rights and privileges. Exemption from paying taxes to the State was the most important of these. They enjoyed more feudal privileges, including feudal dues which they extracted from the peasants.

The nobility was the lower part of the feudal military class which consisted of the court of a prince and a significant boyar in the XII and XIII centuries. Nobles expanded their ownership of the land from the 14th century on and the majority of feudal lords and landlords remained noble until the 17th century. In exchange for their loyalty to the Tsar for as long as they served or for their life, the nobles were given property outside State lands. Such lands were private property by the 18th century.

The revolutionary Soviet government abolished all levels of aristocracy legally after the October Revolution of 1917. Many Russian nobility associations, including those in France, Belgium and the United States, were formed outside the Russian authorities in the 1920s and 1930s. The Russian Nobility Association was founded in New York in 1938.
