Story

Toba Tek Singh is regarded as magnum opus which tells the story of partition and its aftermath.The story is about how people were forced to leave their houses.

The story depicts the partition of the sub continent and its aftermath. A couple of yeras after the partition of the country, it occured to the respective governments of India and Pakistan that inmates of lunatic asylums,like prisoners, should also be exchanged. In this story th pain is shown through a man whose name was Bishen Singh who was a prosperous landlord from Toba Tek village lost his mental stability fifteen years back. Before partition he lived in Lahore. One day he asked  from a person where is he? The person told him that he is neither in India nor in Pakistan. He became very angry and want to issue orders from the authorities. One day just before sunrise, Bishen Singh screamed and as officials from the two sides rushed towards him, he collapsed to the ground. This reflects his concern and love for his ancestal home and how partition and forcible displacement has a deep and profound effect upon the psyche of Bishen Singh.
