In the flowering plants, an ovary is a part of the female reproductive organ of the flower or gynoecium. Specifically, it is the part of the pistil which holds the ovule(s) and is located above or below or at the point of connection with the base of the petals and sepals.

The gynoecium is also known as the female part of the plant flower. It is the innermost part of the flower. It comprises of one or more than one is tails and they are surrounded by pollen grains or the pollen producing organs. This part also gradually develops into the seed and fruit.
