  • Bharata 's theory of drama relates to bhavas, the imitations of the emotions performed by the actors, and the rasas (emotional responses) inspired by them in the audience.
  • The 8 basic bhavas/emotions are: humor,  love,  anger, energy, grief, fear, astonishment, and disgust. In observing and imagining these emotions, the audience experiences eight principal responses, or rasas: love, pity, anger, disgust, heroism, awe, terror and comedy
