As a "constitutional principle & modern political", secularism includes two main proposals. First, citizens of different religions & sections of society are equal before the statute, before the Constitution and before government policies. The second criterion is that "religion & politics" cannot be combined. Therefore, on the grounds of belief or faith no prejudice should be made against anyone, nor do the hegemony of a particular religion or of the religious majority have any position. Our constitution protects secularism in this double sense – no prejudice on grounds of faith and freedom of religion from politics.

Explanation:

The Indian Constitution permits people to live according to their religious values and traditions. India has now implemented a policy to differentiate the power of religion and the power of State according to this concept of freedom of religion for everyone.

The Indian Constitution provides a secular order for the Indian Community. In compliance with the Constitution, the goals for ensuring the following can only be accomplished by a lay State:

  1. No  one religious group can dominate/control another
  2. That some members of the same religious group should not overpower/dominate other members within the same religious group
  3. The State should not mandate any single religion or deprive people of their religious rights.
  • The Indian State tries to combat this domination in many ways. First of all, it uses a strategy to distance itself  from religion. The State does not endorse any one religion nor supports any particular religious group. In India there should not be govt space including law courts, police stations, govt schools and offices for the display or promotion of a single religion
  • A "strategy of non-interference" is the second direction in which Indian secularism operates to avoid the above dominance. This means that the State makes certain provisions for specific religious communities, in order to uphold the feelings of other religions and not intervene with religious practices.
  • The Indian nation is secular and seeks to avoid religious dominance in different ways. The Constitution of India grants fundamental rights centered on these lay values. It should not, though, be assumed that the Indian culture would not breach these rights. Since abuses of this nature also occur, we need a legislative framework to discourage them. Knowing that those rights exist makes us aware of their infringements and allows us to respond when these infringements happen.
