Vijay Tendulkar wrote a Marathi play Ghashiram Kotwal in 1972.

There are several folk forms of Abhanga, Lavani, Maharashtra Kirtan, Khele and Tamasha are used in Ghashiram Kotwal and these folk forms helped in enunciating and expressing the concept of drama more clearly and nicely.

In 1976 the play was adapted in a Marathi film.
