\large{\underline{\textsf{Variation in g due to height:-}}}

Acceleration due to gravity at surface of earth

g = GMe/Re² ......(1)

where:

  • G = gravitational constant
  • Me= mass of earth
  • Re= radius of earth

Force of attraction between a body placed at height h and earth

F = GMem/(Re+h)²

Body will feel weight due to this attraction

→mg'= GMem/(Re+h)²

→ g' = Gm/(Re+h)².......(2)

diving eqⁿ (2) by (1)

→ g'/g = GMe/(Re+h)²/Gm/h²

→ g'/g= [Re/Re+h]²

g' = g/(1+h/Re)²
