Turing Test is a method of inquiry which is used to determine whether a computer is capable of thinking like a human being. The test was developed by Alan Turing in 1950. It tests the ability of a machine to exhibit intelligent behaviour equivalent to or indistinguishable from humans.

Turing Test is also referred to as the Imitation Game. It requires three terminals. Each terminal is separated from the other two. A computer operates one of the terminals. Humans operate the other two terminals.

One of the humans acts as the questioner and the second human and the computer act as the respondents during the test. Using a specified format and context, the questioner interrogates the respondents on a certain subject. After a certain number of questions or preset length of time the questioner is asked to decide which respondent was a computer and which one was a human.

The test is conducted several times. If the questioner is not able to distinguish between the computer and the human the computer is considered to have artificial intelligence.
