Transition between school and university - challenges

• Primarily, a transition from school to university means more responsibilities and freedom. The student should balance both in order to be successful.  

1. At school, there are not much responsibilities, everything is taken care of by the teachers and school staff. The student just needs to attend classes compulsorily since attendance percentage is more, listen to the teacher and study the notes given.  
2. Whereas at the university level, students are given more freedom, even though they need not attend all lecture classes, they need to have the required pass percentage, they need to work independently to prepare class notes, assignments, projects, seminars, write research papers, and do many more activities at their own individual responsibility.  

• Secondly, the level of teaching and learning becomes higher order of complexity at universities with more competition compared to school level.

1. So a student should adapt and learn to think more deeply, analytically, and critically to analyze what is being taught at universities.
2. At school, the level of learning is quite simpler so as to make the content understandable to all students.

• Universities are with diversity of students and hence a student needs to face tougher competition to succeed rather than at school where it is limited.
