The culture of Western Relationships in today’s world is fairly balanced, however -40–50 years ago it was primarily the man who was head of the household and made up the rules, went to work, while the wife would stay home to cook and mind the children. Switch forward to todays world, you will see women going to work, acquiring child-minders or family relatives to look after the children.
Some men do cook or even stay home to look after children in some cases, they may also have the right to get paid paternity leave from work when a new child is born. It is up to the couple how they manage the pattern of their every day lives with not much influence from families.
The non-Western countries particularly (African, Middle Eastern and some Asians
From past till present families still play a huge role in influencing and helping the relationship. Families may even had brought the couple together in the first place, it is not un-common for a newly married couple to go and live with the husbands family, the parents are seen as the hierarchy of the family and if parents are not around the elder brother or sister would take some responsibility in helping the couple, helping with various challenges within the relationship.
When the relationship goes through difficulties- a family union can happen with members of both sides of the couple coming together to help them work out any difficulties they may face.
Grandparents can raise a grandchild as much as the parent, families very much work together.
