Ans: Weeds are plants that grow in a place where it is undesirable. Weeds compete with the desirable plants in the field for food, water, sunlight and even for space.Weeds also act as a host for spreading plant diseases.
Cultural methods such as crop rotation, selecting best suited crops for competition, scouting fields regularly are effective in controlling weeds.
Mechanical and physical methods of weed control include hand pulling, digging, howing, mulching etc.
Biological control include using insects or pathogens for killing the weeds.
Chemical control include using chemicals such as weedicides.
