There are basically three broad types of Storage decives, namely,
1) Primary Memory
2) Cache Memory
3) Secondary Memory
Now, Primary Memory can be classified into two types, namely,
1) RAM- Random Access Memory, which is a volatile memory. It can be read and written by the computer into the program. So, the speed, versatility and consistency depend upon the size and power of Processor.
2) ROM- Read Only Memory, which is a non-volatile memory, which is used to store information from the manufacturer of the computer, to store some 'un-erasable' memory.
Now, Cache Memory is more readily available memory than RAM, which is stored in Processor. Hence, it is faster than RAM.
Now, Secondary Memory can be classified into mainly four types, namely,
1) Optical Disks- They are flat round disks, coated with metal and plastic. It ranges from CD with 700MB to Blu-ray to 50GB.
2) USB flash Drives- It is a small finger like device which can store from 4GB to 256GB.
3) Hard Drive- It also know as solid state drive and it is enclosed inside a PC or laptop. It's storage capacity ranges from 40GB to 2TB.
4) Memory Card- They are small rectangular cards which are like chips. It can store upto 64GB.
