Entamoeba Histolytica belongs to protozoa, it resides in the lumen of the large intestine in harmless minuta (precyst form).

Whenever resistance of the gut is low, it become trophozoite (magna form) invading intestinal walls. They eat mucosa making their way to ulcers destroying them by using enzyme histolysin. Blood along with lumen rupture and passes with stool. This disease is named as Amoebiasis or amoebic dysentery.

Sometimes through blood circulation they reach brain, liver, speen forming abscesses.

Diagnosis: Stool is acidic, foul smelling and can be detected by microscopic white crystals.

Modes of Transmission: unhygienic food handler, habit of defecaing in open and by cockroaches and flies.

Therapy: Drugs such as Amicline, Idoquinol and tinidazole (for invaded sensitive organs)
