Diseases may be classified into two types, that is, congenital disease and acquired

diseases on the basis of whether they occur since birth or after birth. Acquired disease

may be infectious or non-infectious diseases. Infectious diseases are spread from infected

persons to others through air,water, food , physical contact , sexual contact and insects.

The causative agents of these diseases are called pathogens for infectious agents. These

may be virus, bacteria, fungi , protozoans and worms. Non- infectious diseases may occur

due to malfunctioning of some body organs or inadequate diet.
