Chief Minister is executive elected by member of state assembly. After the election in a state the majority party will be choosing hits leader in the house and he will be called by Governor form a government. Then the chief minister will be deciding his minister of Council and cabinets. The day today functioning of all departments in state is the responsibility of chief minister. Chief Minister looks after mainly Finance home ministry education health and hospitals mining forest like this so many departments are there. If the ruling party is not in majority then the chief minister has to resign along with cabinet. the chief minister is elected for 5 year only.

Governor of any state is appointed by the president of India on advice of cabinet. The governor of state is a Central representative to the state to look after the law and order situation and also the constitutional bindings. It is just a nominal post like president of India. The day to day work of state government is supervised by Chief Minister only. Governor has power to appoint some vice chancellor with consultation. The governor is appointed for 5 years. The president can remove the Governor on the advice of cabinet.

The governor acts as the nominal head whereas the real power lies with the Chief ministers of the states and his/her councils of ministers.
