Given :- distance between 2 places A and B is 120 miles. A train leaves A for B after traveling some distance with its usual speed of 24 miles per/hr, meets with an accident .The accident causes it to reduce its speed by 4 miles per/hr.If the train reaches B 1hr 20min late .

To Find :-

  • At what distance from A must the accident have taken place ?

Answer :-

→ Usual speed of train = 24 miles / hour .

→ After accident speed reduce by = 4 miles / hour .

so,

→ Speed after accident = 20 miles / hour.

then,

→ Distance covered by train in 1 hour 20 min. at reduced speed = 20 * 1(20/60) = 20 * (4/3) = (80/3) km .

therefore, we can conclude that, Left distance of the journey must be covered before the accident .

hence,

→ The distance from A must the accident have taken place = 120 - (80/3) = (280/3) ≈ 93.34 km (Ans.)
