Distance between two parallel lines is given by difference in y-intercept of the two lines.

  • For general equation of straight line y=mx+c.
  • c is known as y-intercept.

Changing 2x-y+7=0 into form of general equation:

2x-y+7=0

y=2x+7

y-intercept = 7

Changing 2x – y + 5 = 0 into form of general equation:

2x – y + 5 = 0

y=2x+5

y-intercept = 5

Distance = 7-5 = 2 units.
