New resistance of wire will be 4Ω

Explanation:

given, length of wire = 1

resistance of wire = 5Ω

let the area of cross-section of wire = A

resistance of any given material is given as

R= resistivity *\frac{length}{area of cross-section}

5= resistivity *\frac{1}{area of cross-section}

\frac{resistivity}{area of cross-section} =5             .....................................(1)

given, length of wire is 4 times so new length = 4 m

area of cross-section is 5 times so new area of cross-section = 5 A

let the new resistance R¹

R= resistivity *\frac{length}{area of cross-section}

= resistivity * \frac{4}{5A}

bu using equation (1)

= 5 *\frac{4}{5}

= 4Ω
