i) distillation is only used for miscible liquids or gase as evaporation wont work here because no residue will be left on heating the mixture as a solid was NEVER mixed in it to be left behind. i mean both the liquids will evaporate.
ii) also, by distillation we get both the components, unlike evaporation where the liquid evaporates. so we get only the solid component in it.

Distillation is used for separating a mixture of miscible liquids into its components, when both the components are miscible with each other and the difference in the boiling points of the liquid components is more than 20-25 degree celsius.
The mixture is heated in a flask until the mixture boils, the vapours produced due to boiling of liquid are passed through a condenser, where they are condensed back to the pure liquid which is collected separately. Those liquid mixtures can be seperated by distillation in which difference in the boiling points of the liquid components is more than 20-25 degree celsius.
