While the solstices result in a change of the length of night and day, the equinoxes do not. The summer and winter solstices result in the longest and shortest day of the year respectively while the equinoxes result in an equal amount of daylight and darkness received all across the earth.

1.The equinox is the time in the year when the day and night are equal whereas, Solstice is either of the two days of the year with longest or shortest day.

2.The two Solstices are referred to as winter and summer solstice whereas the two equinoxes are referred to as the spring/vernal equinox and the autumn equinoxes.
