Answer

Explanation:How can we physically differentiate between ferric and ferrous sulphate in lab?

Here are some ways to differentiate Fe2+ & Fe3+.

Add NH3(aq) to the relevant ionic solution.

Fe2+ - Fe (OH)2 dark green precipitation

Fe3+ - Fe(OH)3 brown precipitation

Add pottasium hexacyanoferrate (!!!) to the aqueous solution

Fe2+ - turnbull’s blue prep.

Fe3+ - brown (aq)

With pottasiumpherecyanide hexacyanoferrate(!!) solution

Fe2+ - prashian blue (s)

Fe3+ - white(s)

Fe3+ gives a deep blood red coloured solution with SCN-(aq)

Fe3+ gives purple colour with salicylic acid
