State Legislative Assembly

Members are called MLAs.

Size of electoral constituency is smaller.

MLAs elect their leader who heads the state government.

An MLA can become a minister in the state cabinet.

Parliament (Lok Sabha)

Members are called MPs.

Size of electoral constituency is larger. A constituency of MP is composed of many constituencies of MLAs.

MPs elect their leader who heads the Union government.

An MP can become a minister in the Union cabinet.
