Asexual Reproduction

  1. Involves reproduction through any part of the body. Male and female gametes are absent.
  2. It is a simple process of cell division
  3. No mixing of genetic material. Hence less variation is observed.
  4. It is a rapid process during favourable conditions.
  5. Ex: Binary fission in amoeba

Sexual Reproduction

  1. Involves fusion of male and female gametes.
  2. The fusion of male and female gametes forms zygote from which develops a new individual. This process is known as ‘fertilisation’.

Mixing of genetic material takes place. Hence it shows great extent of variation.

4.It is a slower process.

5.Ex: reproduction in multi-cellular organisms.

sexual reproduction

it often involves two parents

gametes are produced

fertilization and zygote formation is observed

formation

aexual reproduction

it involves only one parent

gametes are not produced

no fertilization and zygot formation

meiosis does not occur at anytime
