a axon and dendrites both are the part of neuron which is found in the nervous system. But they do have some contrasting characters. The maindifference between an axon and adendrite is, dendrites receive messages from other cells while axons passes messages from the cell body to other neurons, muscles or glands.

Both axon and dendrites are fibres stretched from cell body or cyton but axon is the longest fibre and dendrites are small projections which extend at ends of cyton.
Dendrites passes information from one nerve cell to other and axon passes the information from axon ferminels to cyton in the form of electrical or nerve impulse.
