distinguish test between benzaldehyde and acetophenone: a) tollen's test: benzaldehyde being an aldehydic group react with tollen's reagent to from a red-brown precipitate , since acetophenone is a ketonic group it does not react with tollen's reagent. but benzaldehyde do not react . thus distinguished.
