What is the difference between carpooling and ride sharing?
Carpooling - Pooling of the car. If 5 people live in same area and they want to go together for office commute, then 1st day, person 1 will take his car, 2nd day, person 2 will take his car and so on to reduce the number of car on road.
Ridesharing - If 2 people are traveling in a a car it is mean that they are doing ridesharing. Be it a non - commercial car or commercial car, it is considered as Ridesharing.
Now ridesharing has 2 part - Taxi industry rideaharing and Community driven ridesharing. 1st one is considered as Service and 2nd one is considered as Initiative or social commute to help people and consume same amount of fuel by 2 or 2+ people.
Edit 1 - In carpooling, all people should have car but in Ridesharing, it is not necessary.

While carpooling carries around five people, public transport can carry many.
- In the case of car pooling, a car is necessary and the people who can come together can be between five to seven depending on the car type.
- In the case of public transport the modes are bus, trains etc, which can accustom many people at once.
- Comparitively, carpooling is seen to be costlier than using public transport.
- In carpooling the money goes to the owner of the car whereas in public transport the money goes to the government.
