Crest and trough are seen in transverse wave. The energy gets propagates via these crest and trough. The part of wave above is crest and that of below is trough. When electromagnetic wave gets propagata through ground, crest developes positive charge on ground an trough, negative charge.

Crest is the top line of a hill, mountain, or wave whereas trough is a narrow depression (as in the earth or between ocean waves or in the ocean bed).

Crest is the highest or extreme point of something (usually a mountain or hill) whereas trough is a channel along the eaves or on the roof; collects and carries away rainwater.

Hope this helps:)
