direct current (DC), the electric charge (current) only flows in one direction. Electric charge in alternating current (AC), on the other hand, changes direction periodically. The voltage in AC circuits also periodically reverses because the current changes direction.

- ac means alternating current
- it is a current of magnitude varying with respect to time
- frequency of ac is 50 to 60Hz .it depends on country
- ac can be step up or step down easily with the help of transformers
- it reverse its direction
DC
- dc stand for direct current
- it is of constant magnitude
- frequency of dc is 0 Hz
- it is difficult to step up or step down dc because fo it we have to convert dc into ac then after step up step down again we have to change this ac into dc
- it flows in one direction
