Distinguish between direct and indirect channels of distribution in international marketing of cosmetics

I guess you could find numerous definitions but they would all differ just a little at the end. Most common understanding in IT business is something as:

Direct distribution channels are under direct control of the vendor (original company). Mostly as an internal sales department, international sales units, majority owned branches etc. These follow the sales and marketing strategy of the vendor itself and majority of investments & profits pertain to the vendor.

Indirect distribution channels are developed as an independent sales units in form of distributors, resellers and other sales agents. These doesn’t fall under vendor directly, although their inception and existence is more or less vendor-influenced. Sales and marketing strategy as well as investments & profits relate to more people outside of the original vendor structures.
