Sprinkler systems are often used to water areas that have plants evenly distributed (such as a grass lawn). In this scenario a sprinkler is effective because the entire area needs water. Drip irrigation systems are more efficient when the main root areas are spread out (such as a fruit orchard) because they apply the water directly to the roots of the desired plants. This reduces the amount of evaporation loss and the loss from weed growth.

_______
I hope this answer helps you
_______
# Sprinkler system-- in this system, a main pipeline is laid in the feilds. perpendicular pipes having rotating nozzles at the top are joined to the main pipeline at regular intervals.when water from a tubewell is allowed to flow through the main pipeline under pressure with the help of a pump , it escapes from the rotating nozzles. this water get sprayed on the crop plant as if it is raining. this type of system is more useful for the uneven land where sufficient water is not available..it is also useful for sandy soil..

#. drip irrigation-- in this system, there is a network of narrow pipes with small holes, in the feilds. when water flows through narrow pipes, it falls drop by drop at the position of roots of the plants. this water is absorbed by the soil in the root zone of the plants and utilised by the plants..there is no run-off of irrigation water. drip system is the best technique for watering fruit plants, trees and gardens.....
