The Equator separates the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The Equator is at 0° latitude whereas  The Prime Meridian separates the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. The Prime Meridian runs through Greenwich, England and is at 0° longitude

equator is a imaginary line passing from west to east. equator divide the earth in two equal hemispheres

prime meridian is a longitudinal line passing from south to north through the old royal observatory Greenwich near London that's why it name is Greenwich meridian or prime meridian.
