Ethyl bromide and Ethyl chloride can be distinguished by silver nitrate test. On addition of silver nitrate in ethyl chloride, white precipitate is formed which is soluble in NH4OH. On addition of silver nitrate in ethyl bromide, yellow precipitate is formed which in insoluble in NHOH. tests to distinguish both.
