The Malwa Plateau is situated in the southwestern part of the "Central Highlands". Its major part lies in Madhya Pradesh.

The Chota Nagpur Plateau is situated at the eastern end of the "Central Highlands" lies mostly in Jharkhand.

Explanation:

  • The Malwa Plateau (of volcanic origin) lies in Madhya Pradesh between  Vindhyas & Aravali. It icomprises extensive lava flow & is covered with "black soils". The region has a "tropical climate" with "dry deciduous forests" which are home to different tribes, most important being the "Bhils". The plateau slopes to the north. The western portion of the region is drained by river Mahi, while the river Chambal drains the central part, river Betwa & the headwaters of the Ken & the Dhasan rivers drain the east
  • The Chotanagpur Plateau (collective name for the Hazaribagh, Kodarma, & Ranchi plateaus lies in the the northeast part of "Peninsular plateau". It comprises Jharkhand, parts of West Bengal & Chhattisgarh and comprises series of step like sub-plateaus  and is a mineral rich plateau. Numerous streams have "dissected the uplands" into a peneplain with isolated hills. The plateau lies between the Ganga basins and Son rivers (north) & the Mahanadi River (south)
