It's Quite Simple really.
Insolation-The short wave radiation from the sun to the Earth that is obstructed by the cloud as it is not a good conductor and only a small part that reaches the Earth is stored there till night.
Terrestrial Radiation-At night the heat is radiated out in the form of long waves but the atmosphere is good conductor of short wave radiation but on cloudy days,it remains stored in the Earth.
