and kinetic energy is the energy due to motion of an object.

where m is mass , g is gravity and h os the height of the object from earth surface.

as h increase or decrease means position change then potential energy also change.

and

kinetic energy = 1/2 m v^2

where m is mass and v is its velocity.

as velocity increase or decrease then kinetic energy also change.

hence

potential energy depends on position while kinetic energy depends on velocity of object
