Latent function. ... Manifest function is something, which can be noticed easily. Latent function is deeper and not all the participants are aware of it. Whereas manifest function is known by all participants of the social institutions.

Other is Latent function which is is deeper and not all the participants become aware of it.

Suitable example is punishment of a criminal.

If a criminal is punished, everyone consider that as a culture of the society which state that deviance of behavior is not permitted in the society.

This is known as manifest function.

On the other hand  the latent function of this punishment confirms the society’s faith in its collective conscience
