Thermal Decomposition reaction of Lead Nitrate:
2Pb(NO3)2 + Heat -> 2PbO + 4NO2(GAS) + O2(GAS)
Thermal Decomposition reaction of Zinc Nitrate:
2 Zn(NO3)2 + Heat -> 2 ZnO+4 NO2(GAS) + O2(GAS)
Lead Oxide is yellow in colour when hot (litharge) but turns white on cooling,
while Zinc Oxide is white (in all conditions,i.e:- when hot or cold).This property can be used to distinguish PbO from ZnO and hence Pb(NO3)2 and Zn(NO3)2.
Hope it help
