Liner Service refers to the service which operates on a fixed schedule and has a fixed port rotation.They are not just related to containers, but also to other cargoes which have a fixed and regular routing/service like Bulk cargo services on a COA or long-term charter.

Tramp Service refers to a ship that does not follow any fixed schedule or itinerary . It ican be arranged at very short period of notice to load any cargo from one port to other.

The main differences between Liner and Tramp services is the Bill of Lading used and the type of contract of carriage .

Liner service use a BIMCO ConLineBill or have their own pre-printed bill of lading . On the contrary  a bill of lading under the Tramp service (which might have a coverage through a Charter Party) like the BIMCO ConGenBill is used depending upon the charter party ,cargo etc.
