literate people can read and write simple sentences.It does not have to be only english. any person who can understand and write sentences are usually termed as literate individuals

illiterate people do not understand writings and it is difficult for them to write as well.It becomes a huge problem for them beause in this new generation survival without knowledge on reading and writing is a huge problem.

people usually get the wrong idea that knowing english is literate. it is but any other language works fine to call someone literate
