MASS

The quantity of matter in a body is called mass.

The SI unit of mass is Kilogram (kg).

CHARACTERISTICS OF MASS

 1. Mass is a scalar quantity.

2. The mass of a body remains constant at all place. This means, the mass of a body on the earth, on the moon or everywhere in the outer space remains the same.

WEIGHT

The weight of an object is the force with which it is attracted towards the earth.

CHARACTERISTICS OF WEIGHT

 1. Weight is a vector quantity.

 2. The weight of an object keep changing on the other planet, because it is acceleration due to the gravity. and gravity is different on other planet.

 3. W = m x g

b) S.I. unit of mass is kilometres (kg).

c) Mass is a scalar quantity.

d) Mass remain constant at every point in the universe.

e) Mass is measured using a beam balance.

f) Mass of a body can never be zero.

{Weight}

a) Weight is the gravitational force acting on a body by celestial body.

b) S.I. unit of weight is Newton (N).

c) Weight is a vector quantity.

d) Weight of a body varies from point to point according to the value of 'g' as weight = mass × acceleration due to gravity.

e) Weight is measured using a spring balance.

f) Weight of a body can be zero, e.g. in outer space.
