Mass communication is an exchange of information over a wide range of people, especially at the same time. These people could be anywhere, even in different countries,  but are hearing/seeing the same kind of information through mediums like newspapers, televisions etc.

Interpersonal communication occurs between two or more people very near each other. It could be in a conference, or between a father and son. They discuss the same thing and share the same knowledge.
