Explanation:

metals are the elements found in the first three groups of the periodic table as well as in the centre of the table (these are the transition metals)

non- metals are the elements in the periodic table that are present after the transition metal block (group 4 and onwards)

metals also have free electrons, are generally malleable and all except mercury are solid at r.t.p.

non-metals generally have very few free electrons(usually bad conductors) they are generally brittle if solid and cannot really be shaped.

Most non metals are gases, but solids and liquid also exist, in the periodic table.
