Indian society is broadly divided into three classes viz. upper, middle and lower class on the basis of their income, occupation and lifestyle. The middle class is that section of society which mainly engages in jobs and small scale business .off late a new group of people called as ‘THE NEW MIDDLE CLASS’’ have emerged in this class. The main difference lies in their lifestyle, choices and preferences.

There has been increase in status and income of middle class. Due to globalization and other phenomena there is increase in employment opportunities. People are getting more income and also more options to spend on. This new class is more educated, aware and informed .Their lifestyle has changed dramatically .They are becoming more luxury and comfort loving. They are concentrated ore in metro cities and big towns .this is still to penetrate in small towns.

One major phenomenon that have changed is the saving tendency. Earlier middle class use to focus on savings and investment but now this is slowly fading away .Also the culture of credit cards and EMI have further facilitated them. With coming of social networking there is greater exchange of information.

Especially the youth demography of this section is more ambitious and career driven. They are very focused on what they want and are very expressive about it. Some social issues have also crept in because of this new tendency. Youth is losing its ties touch with Indian culture and tradition. They are becoming more WESTERNISED .For instance they see their idols in western pop stars and singers and follow them religiously but when they don’t know anything about our music and our world renowned classical singers.

Thus like every coin this also have two sides. Therefore we have to make sure that the bad impacts gets minimized and more positive result are yielded. The student at colleges and school should also learn and appreciate our culture .Middle class has always been an important pillar of our society and will continue to remain so.
