OXIDATION - Oxidation of carbon in presence of oxidising agent .

eg - Ethanol in presence of alkaline KMnO4 or acidified K2Cr2O7 gives Ethanoic acid .


ADITTION REACTION. - A chemical reaction in which two substances combine and form a third substance.

OR

the reaction in which unsaturated hydrocarbon on hydrogenation gets converted into saturated hydrocarbon.


eg - Ethene + H2 gives Ethane in presence of catalyst like Ni .

APPLICATION - vegetable oil on hydrogenation into vanspati ghee .
